An Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorder

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), working with Falkirk & Clackmannanshire Carers Centre, is offering information sessions and workshops for parents/carers of school aged children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These sessions are open to those who have received a diagnosis for their child and have not accessed the CAMHS Parents Group or an Early Bird programme in the past.

Social Stories & Comic Strip Conversations

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), working with Falkirk & Clackmannanshire Carers Centre, is offering a Social Stories andย Comic Strip Conversation Workshop.

In this workshop, carers will learn more about Social Stories and Comic Strips, and will be given the chance to practice writing them. These are tools which can help children develop an understanding of social situations, prepare for change/new situations and develop social communication skills.

These sessions are open to any parents/carers with school aged children who have Additional Support Needs. There is a choice of attending this session either in September or November. To find out more, you can download the programme here.

Care with Confidence – Power of Attorney

What would you do if the person you care for lost the capacity to make decisions on their own?

Come along to our Care with Confidence Sessions on Power of Attorney find out about:
– Incapacity and how this could impact on your caring responsibilities
– How being granted Power of Attorney could help you in your caring role
– Applying for Legal Aid to cover or subsidise any associated costs

Monthly information sessions will be held at the Carers Centre in Falkirk and Ludgate House in Alloa. Topics will be Chronic Pain, Home Fire Safety, Telecare and Overnight MECS Care and Dementia – Questions & Answers.

Care with Confidence Chair Yoga & Guided Relaxation

Our new Yoga and Guided Relaxation Care with Confidence sessions for carers start on Tuesday 2 August 2016.

Carers can often find themselves under increasing stress. We have designed a program of free informal sessions to equip carers with techniques to help them relax and stay healthy.

Carers Week 2016

Carers across Falkirk district and Clackmannanshire have signed upย to attend events organised by the Carers Centre to mark Carers Week 2016, starting with our 20th Anniversary Celebration Event at the Hippodrome in Bo’ness and including pampering sessions, information sessions, and more. ย On Friday, carers are invited to join us for the Big Fit Walk – in Tullibody and at the Helix in Falkirk.

Falkirk and Clackmannanshire carers will kick off Carers Week in style in Scotland’s oldest purpose-built cinema, the Hippodrome in Boโ€™ness where they will enjoy a glass of fizz, some canapรฉs and an exclusive showing of the recently released film, โ€˜Florence Foster Jenkinsโ€™, starring Hugh Grant and Meryl Streep.

Care with Confidence – Falls Prevention

Each year, more than a third of over 65โ€™s experience one or more falls. It is often accepted that falls are an inevitable consequence of getting older. This is not the case.

Come along to the Falls Prevention session on Wednesday 20 April 2016, 10.00 am at Hawkhill Community Centre, Alloaย toย find out how to prevent falls in the house and enjoy an introduction to gentle self help balance and strengthening exercises. It can make a difference.
