Carers Week 2016

Carers across Falkirk district and Clackmannanshire have signed up to attend events organised by the Carers Centre to mark Carers Week 2016, starting with our 20th Anniversary Celebration Event at the Hippodrome in Bo’ness and including pampering sessions, information sessions, and more.  On Friday, carers are invited to join us for the Big Fit Walk – in Tullibody and at the Helix in Falkirk.

Monday 6th June

20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION EVENT!  Film, Fizz and Canapes

Falkirk and Clackmannanshire carers will kick off Carers Week in style in Scotland’s oldest purpose-built cinema, the Hippodrome in Bo’ness where they will enjoy a glass of fizz, some canapés and an exclusive showing of the recently released film, ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’, starring Hugh Grant and Meryl Streep.

Join us to walk round the pond at Helix Park or to walk to the Kelpies and back, followed by a cuppa. Meet at Falkirk Stadium at 10.45 am to start at 11 am. Contact the Centre to let us know you will be coming.

Better Breaks Outings 2016

Applications are invited for this year’s Better Breaks Outings for children and young people (up to 20 years) with additional support needs and their families in Falkirk District and Clackmannanshire:

  • Dreamnight at the Zoo – 19th August 6-9 pm, Edinburgh Zoo
  • Christmas Pantomime- December 2016 (details to be confirmed)

Transport to Dreamnight at the Zoo will be made available to those families who require it or would like to travel with a group, families are also welcome to travel and attend independently.

Dreamnight at the Zoo Information Sheet

The deadline for receipt of completed applications for the Summer outing is Friday 17th June at 5pm. Places cannot be guaranteed and priority will be given to families who have not participated in, or who have participated in fewer, previous Better Breaks outings.

Tickets for Dreamnight have been made available by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and, thanks to funding from the Scottish Government’s Short Breaks Fund (Better Breaks programme), we are able to offer transport for a limited number of eligible families.

The new programme of Care with Confidence sessions in Clackmannanshire runs from 20 April to 29 June 2016. Sessions will be held in Hawkhill Community Centre, Alloa.

Care with Confidence – Falls Prevention

Each year, more than a third of over 65’s experience one or more falls. It is often accepted that falls are an inevitable consequence of getting older. This is not the case.

Come along to the Falls Prevention session on Wednesday 20 April 2016, 10.00 am at Hawkhill Community Centre, Alloa to find out how to prevent falls in the house and enjoy an introduction to gentle self help balance and strengthening exercises. It can make a difference.

Carers Burns Meal

Carers in Clackmannanshire are invited to the Carers Centre Burns Meal at Dunmar House on Wednesday 27 January 2016 at 7 pm . There will be an evening meal themed around the life of Robert Burns with good chat, musical entertainment and a raffle. Carers and those they care for are welcome. Cost £5 per person. Clackmannanshire Carers Forum

The Clackmannanshire Carers Forum meets quarterly.  It is a voice for local carers to discuss with service providers, and one another, local and national issues that affect carers and those they care for. This month the Forum will focus on:

  • Carers Rights
  • Clackmannanshire and Stirling Health Partnership Strategic Plan
  • Forth Valley Carers Card

Integration of health and social care – Opportunity in Clackmannanshire

Integration of health and social care is one of Scotland’s major programmes of reform.  At its heart, health and social care integration is about ensuring that those who use services get the right care and support whatever their needs, at any point in their care journey.  As part of delivering integrated health and social care, partnerships must develop a Strategic Plan in partnership with stakeholders.

There have already been a number of events, workshops and conversations which will influence the Strategic Plan, however a discussion and engagement event for people in Clackmannanshire has been arranged. This event will be on Wednesday 7th October, 10.00am – 12 noon in Alloa Town Hall.  To register an interest in attending please call 01786 434049 or email CS.integration@nhs.net (due to fire safety regulations there is a limit to the number of people who can attend these sessions).
