Carers Week Programme, Falkirk

The Carers Centre has organised a programme of activities for carers in Falkirk and Clackmannanshire to celebrate Carers Week, 12 – 18 June 2017.

Better Breaks Family Outing 17 June 2017

 

Applications are invited for a Better Breaks Outing for children and young people (up to 20 years) with additional support needs and their families in Falkirk District and Clackmannanshire to visit Almond Valley Heritage Centre, Livingston, on Saturday 17 June 2017, 10 am till 4.30 pm where lunch will be provided.

Transport to the venue will be made available for families who require it or for those who would like to travel with a group. Families are also welcome to travel and attend independently.

This year, in order to sustain these trips and in keeping with Better Breaks criteria, a small contribution will be required at £2.50 per head towards admission for everyone attending.

The deadline for receipt of completed applications for this outing is Thursday 8 June at 5 pm. Places cannot be guaranteed and priority will be given to families who have not participated in any, or who have participated in fewer, previous Better Breaks outings.

Carers Forum 2017

Carers Forum meetings take place quarterly in Falkirk and Clackmannanshire. They provide an opportunity for local carers to discuss local and national issues that affect carers, and those they care for, with service providers and other carers.

Carers Christmas Lunch 2016

Local carers are invited to a festive Christmas Lunch on Tuesday 13 December from 12 noon to 2.30 pm.

The Carers Christmas Lunch brings carers together to relax, have a break from their caring role, meet and chat with other carers and have some festive fun.

Lunches will be held at the Park Hotel in Falkirk and Dunmar House in Alloa.

Falkirk & Clackmannanshire Carers Centre

Falkirk Carers Forum

The Falkirk Carers Forum will take place at the Carers Centre on Thursday 27 October 2016 from 11 am to 1 pm, followed by lunch. Tea and coffee will be available from 10.45 am.

The focus of the Forum will be ‘A New Future for Social Security’ and will include information and discussion on the Government’s consultation on Social Security in Scotland which includes proposed changes to Carers Allowance and disability benefits.

There will be a presentation from Arun Gopinath, manager at Central Scotland Regional Equality Council (CSREC), regarding the services they offer to the community with a focus on hate crime and third party reporting. Fuller papers will be emailed by Monday 17 October.

Carers Week 2016

Carers across Falkirk district and Clackmannanshire have signed up to attend events organised by the Carers Centre to mark Carers Week 2016, starting with our 20th Anniversary Celebration Event at the Hippodrome in Bo’ness and including pampering sessions, information sessions, and more.  On Friday, carers are invited to join us for the Big Fit Walk – in Tullibody and at the Helix in Falkirk.

20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION EVENT!  Film, Fizz and Canapes

Falkirk and Clackmannanshire carers will kick off Carers Week in style in Scotland’s oldest purpose-built cinema, the Hippodrome in Bo’ness where they will enjoy a glass of fizz, some canapés and an exclusive showing of the recently released film, ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’, starring Hugh Grant and Meryl Streep.

Better Breaks Outings 2016

Applications are invited for this year’s Better Breaks Outings for children and young people (up to 20 years) with additional support needs and their families in Falkirk District and Clackmannanshire:

  • Dreamnight at the Zoo – 19th August 6-9 pm, Edinburgh Zoo
  • Christmas Pantomime- December 2016 (details to be confirmed)

Transport to Dreamnight at the Zoo will be made available to those families who require it or would like to travel with a group, families are also welcome to travel and attend independently.

Tickets for Dreamnight have been made available by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and, thanks to funding from the Scottish Government’s Short Breaks Fund (Better Breaks programme), we are able to offer transport for a limited number of eligible families.

Have your voice heard: join other carers and representatives from health, social care and the third sector to discuss current issues and hear the latest updates.
