Autism Spectrum Disorder Sessions

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS),
working with Falkirk & Clackmannanshire Carers Centre, is offering information sessions and workshops for parents/carers of school aged children who have been diagnosed with
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

These sessions are open to those who have received a diagnosis for their child and have not accessed the CAMHS Parents Group or an Early Bird programme in the past.

Fronto Temporal Dementia Carer Sessions

The Centre in Falkirk is running a programme of Fronto Temporal Dementia Carer Sessions from April to June 2017, starting on Friday 28 April.  The sessions are open to carers of people with a confirmed diagnosis of Fronto Temporal Dementia.  The monthly sessions provide information and support to carers in an informal setting.  Professionals are also invited on a regular basis to talk about the clinical, social and legal aspects of care.  The programme will take place on the last Friday of each calendar month.  Contact the Centre or download a programme here for more information.

Sensory Centre Wellbeing Café – Carer Sessions

Sessions for carers of adults affected by sensory loss in the Falkirk area started in February at the Sensory Centre.  Carers may be accompanied by the person they care for who will be able to take part in alternative activities provided by the Sensory Centre.

Sensory loss includes those who may be blind, partially sighted, deaf, deafened, deafblind and hard of hearing.

The Wellbeing Café will meet each week on a Thursday from 12 noon to 2.30 pm and offer a mix of learning opportunities and social support for carers.   Both the carer and the cared for person will have a programme to take part in followed by lunch so that they may share their learning and benefit from peer support.

Care with Confidence Programme January – February 2017

The new Care with Confidence sessions start on Tuesday 24 January 2017, 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, at the Carers Centre in Falkirk.

Hear from various professionals about the services that are available to support carers and those they care for.

Topics will be Sleep, Dementia & Medication, Scams, Mini Steps to Better Nutrition, Patient Opinion and Dementia & Continence Care.

Power of Attorney

What would you do if the person you care for lost the capacity to make decisions on their own?

Come along to our Care with Confidence Sessions on Power of Attorney find out about:

– Incapacity and how this could impact on your caring responsibilities
– How being granted Power of Attorney could help you in your caring role
– Applying for Legal Aid to cover or subsidise any associated costs

Monthly information sessions will be held at the Carers Centre in Falkirk and Ludgate House in Alloa. New Care with Confidence programme in Boness

New – Bo’ness ‘Care with Confidence’ sessions start on Thursday 6 October 2016 from 10 am till 12 noon at Kinneil Bowling & Social Club, Angus Road, Bo’ness, EH51 0BH.

As a carer you may find yourself under increasing stress… The ‘Managing Stress’ sessions will give you some methods and techniques to help ease feelings of tension and aid relaxation.

Social Stories & Comic Strip Conversations

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), working with Falkirk & Clackmannanshire Carers Centre, is offering a Social Stories and Comic Strip Conversation Workshop.

In this workshop, carers will learn more about Social Stories and Comic Strips, and will be given the chance to practice writing them. These are tools which can help children develop an understanding of social situations, prepare for change/new situations and develop social communication skills.

These sessions are open to any parents/carers with school aged children who have Additional Support Needs. There is a choice of attending this session either in September or November. To find out more, you can download the programme here.
