Better Breaks Family Outings Winter 2018

Applications are invited for a Better Breaks Outing for children and young people (up to 20 years) with additional support needs and their families in Falkirk District and Clackmannanshire:

  • Dick Whittington Pantomime, Larbert Amateur Operatic Society, Dobbie Hall, Larbert, Monday 19 November 2018 at 7.30 pm
  • Sleepin’ Cutie Pantomime, Macrobert Arts Centre, Stirling, Saturday 8 December 2018 at 2 pm or Saturday 15 December 2018 at 2 pm (smaller group)

Transport to the venue will be made available to those families who require it and would like to travel with the group, families are also welcome to travel and attend independently.

Please note: this year in order to sustain these trips and in keeping with Better Breaks criteria a small contribution will be required at £5 per head towards admission for everyone attending any of the Macrobert pantomimes.

The deadline for receipt of completed applications for this outing is Monday 12 November at Noon for Dick Whittington and Monday 19 November at 5pm for Sleepin’ Cutie.

Places cannot be guaranteed and priority will be given to families who have not participated in, or who have participated in fewer, previous Better Breaks outings.

Guardianship Orders

Planning for the future and assisting the person you care for to make decisions is an important consideration for many carers. Come along to learn about the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 and provisions for protecting the welfare of adults who are unable to take decisions for themselves.

The session will be facilitated by Solicitors for Older People Scotland who provide support to older people and vulnerable young adults.

Care with Confidence Programme – Falkirk

The new Care with Confidence sessions start on Tuesday 25 September 2018, 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, at the Carers Centre in Falkirk.

Hear from various professionals about the services that are available to support carers and those they care for. Topics include Dementia and Sensory Challenges, Social Work Re-ablement Project and Home Fire Safety.

Frontotemporal Dementia Carer Sessions

The Frontotemporal Dementia Carer Sessions are open to carers of people with a confirmed diagnosis of Frontotemporal Dementia.  The monthly sessions provide information and support to carers in an informal setting.  Professionals are also invited on a regular basis to talk about the clinical, social and legal aspects of care.

The programme which includes sessions on Food for Thought, Stress & Distress and a Topic Choice chosen by the carers who attend will start on Friday 28 September from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm.  Thereafter the group will meet on the last Friday in October and November 2018.

Care with Confidence in Falkirk: What Carers Need to Know

The What Carers Need to Know programme will help carers to improve their confidence and develop their knowledge and understanding of their caring role.  For those who cannot attend our day time programmes, we are offering carers an opportunity to attend six evening sessions, 6 pm to 8 pm, at Falkirk & Clackmannanshire Carers Centre, starting on Wednesday 12 September 2018.  Refreshments and finger buffet will be available on arrival.  Please download a programme for more information.

Falkirk Carers Forum on Wednesday 22 August 2018

Please join us for our next meeting of the Falkirk Carers Forum on

  • Wednesday 22 August 2018 at Trinity Church, Falkirk
  • 10.45 am to 1 pm followed by a buffet lunch

The meeting will include an update on the local Short Breaks Statement.  The Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 which came into force on 1 April 2018 will place a new duty on local authorities to prepare and publish a Short Breaks Services Statement.  There will be an opportunity to discuss the local Short Breaks statement which will provide carers and the person they care for with information about the short breaks services available locally and across Scotland.

  • East Links Family Park, Dunbar, Wednesday 25 July 2018, 10 am till 4.30 pm.  Please bring a packed lunch.
  • Pals Inclusive play park, Pittencreiff Park, Dunfermline, Wednesday 1 August 2018, 10 am till 3.30 pm.  This will be a smaller outing, please contact the Centre to discuss further.
  • Glasgow Riverside Museum and The Tall Ship, Glasgow, Thursday 9 August, 10 am till 4.30 pm.  Lunch will be provided.

Transport will be made available to those families who require it and would like to travel with the larger group.  Families are also welcome to self-travel and attend independently.  As in previous years, and in keeping with Better Breaks funding criteria, a small contribution of £2.50 per head will be required towards admission.

Care with Confidence

For the first time, Falkirk & Clackmannanshire Carers Centre will offer the adult Seasons for Growth programme which aims to build resilience and bring hope and confidence to carers who have experienced significant change or loss.

Grief may be due to any number of experiences including bereavement, relationship breakdown, caring or experiencing ill health. It may be a recent loss, or something that happened a long time ago.
