Falkirk Carers Forum

The Falkirk Carers Forum will take place at the Carers Centre on Thursday 27 October 2016 from 11 am to 1 pm, followed by lunch. Tea and coffee will be available from 10.45 am.

The focus of the Forum will be ‘A New Future for Social Security’ and will include information and discussion on the Government’s consultation on Social Security in Scotland which includes proposed changes to Carers Allowance and disability benefits.

There will be a presentation from Arun Gopinath, manager at Central Scotland Regional Equality Council (CSREC), regarding the services they offer to the community with a focus on hate crime and third party reporting. Fuller papers will be emailed by Monday 17 October.

Adult Support and Protection Event

Do you use health or social care services? Can you help?

Eight years ago, Scotland introduced a law to ‘support and protect’ adults who need help to stay safe. The law makes clear what should happen when an adult is neglected or mistreated. In the Falkirk area, an Adult Protection Committee meets regularly to improve support and protection services.

The Committee is setting up a reference group for people who use health or social care services to comment on what works best. The first meeting is on Wednesday 28 September 2016 at 11 am at the Carers Centre in Falkirk.

Care with Confidence

September Care with Confidence sessions start on Tuesday 6 September 2016, 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, at the Carers Centre in Falkirk.

Hear from various professionals, about the services that are available to support carers and those they care for.

Topics will be Chronic Pain, Home Fire Safety, Telecare and Overnight MECS Care and Dementia – Questions & Answers.

Self Directed Support Survey

A Stirling University Masters Student has asked us to share this short survey about Self-Directed Support (SDS) awareness with you, looking at demand for what breaks families/carers/children/young adults would prefer to chose – i.e. residential respite weekend or an adventure based short break.Please help her research by following the attached link.

Care with Confidence Chair Yoga & Guided Relaxation

Our new Yoga and Guided Relaxation Care with Confidence sessions for carers start on Tuesday 2 August 2016.

Carers can often find themselves under increasing stress. We have designed a program of free informal sessions to equip carers with techniques to help them relax and stay healthy.

The fifth Carers Parliament will be held on 2 November 2016 at Herriot Watt University. There are places for two carers from each of the 73 Scottish Parliamentary constituencies. Places will be decided by a ballot, which will be held in late July with successful delegates informed in early August. Click here for further information or to enter your name in the ballot.

Falkirk Carers Forum

The Carers Forum meets quarterly. It is an opportunity for carers to discuss local and national issues that affect carers and those they care for with professionals and one another. The next Forum meeting will take place on Wednesday 25 May at the Carers Centre from 11 am to 1 pm, followed by lunch. The Agenda will be:

· Forth Valley Carers Card update
· Carer Representation– Integration Joint Board update
· Social Work/Health/Third Sector update
· Carer concerns/issues
· National Care Standards Review
