NEW Parent Carer Evening Zoom Sessions

From this month we are starting a NEW monthly Parent Carer Evening Zoom session, which is open to all parent carers in Falkirk and Clackmannanshire!

The sessions will take place on the last Wednesday of each month, beginning next Wednesday, 24 February, and will run from 5.30 pm until 7 pm.

As well as an opportunity to speak with other parent carers, these sessions will also feature guest speakers on the following topics:

  • 24 February 2021       Making Sense of the Senses
  • 31 March 2021            Scottish Autism
  • 28 April 2021              Self Directed Support

Better Breaks Family Outing November/December 2017

 

 

 

 

Applications are invited for a Better Breaks Outing for children and young people (up to 20 years) with additional support needs and their families in Falkirk District and Clackmannanshire:

  • The Snow Queen Pantomime, Larbert Amateur Operatic Society, Dobbie Hall, Larbert on Monday 20 November at 7.30 pm
  • Chick Whittington Pantomime, Macrobert Arts Centre, Stirling on Saturday 25 November at 7.30 pm or Saturday 9 December at 2 pm

Transport to the venue will be made available to those families who require it and would like to travel with the group. Families are also welcome to travel and attend independently.

This year in order to sustain these trips and in keeping with Better Breaks criteria a small contribution will be required at £5 per head towards admission for everyone attending any of the Macrobert pantomimes.

Applications are invited for a Better Breaks Outing for children and young people (up to 20 years) with additional support needs and their families in Falkirk District and Clackmannanshire to visit Glasgow Science Centre on Thursday 17 August 2017, 10 am till 4.30 pm, please provide a packed lunch for your family.

Transport to the venue will be made available for families who require it and who would like to travel with the group. Families are also welcome to travel and attend independently.

This year, in order to sustain these trips and in keeping with Better Breaks criteria, a small contribution will be required at £2.50 per head towards admission for everyone attending.

An Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorder

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), working with Falkirk & Clackmannanshire Carers Centre, is offering information sessions and workshops for parents/carers of school aged children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These sessions are open to those who have received a diagnosis for their child and have not accessed the CAMHS Parents Group or an Early Bird programme in the past.

Social Stories & Comic Strip Conversations

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), working with Falkirk & Clackmannanshire Carers Centre, is offering a Social Stories and Comic Strip Conversation Workshop.

In this workshop, carers will learn more about Social Stories and Comic Strips, and will be given the chance to practice writing them. These are tools which can help children develop an understanding of social situations, prepare for change/new situations and develop social communication skills.

These sessions are open to any parents/carers with school aged children who have Additional Support Needs. There is a choice of attending this session either in September or November. To find out more, you can download the programme here.

Care with Confidence

September Care with Confidence sessions start on Tuesday 6 September 2016, 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, at the Carers Centre in Falkirk.

Hear from various professionals, about the services that are available to support carers and those they care for.

Topics will be Chronic Pain, Home Fire Safety, Telecare and Overnight MECS Care and Dementia – Questions & Answers.

Better Breaks Outings 2016

Applications are invited for this year’s Better Breaks Outings for children and young people (up to 20 years) with additional support needs and their families in Falkirk District and Clackmannanshire:

  • Dreamnight at the Zoo – 19th August 6-9 pm, Edinburgh Zoo
  • Christmas Pantomime- December 2016 (details to be confirmed)

Transport to Dreamnight at the Zoo will be made available to those families who require it or would like to travel with a group, families are also welcome to travel and attend independently.

Tickets for Dreamnight have been made available by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and, thanks to funding from the Scottish Government’s Short Breaks Fund (Better Breaks programme), we are able to offer transport for a limited number of eligible families.

Pamper Treatments for Carers

A qualified complimentary therapist will be volunteering at the Carers Centre to offer Carers Free treatments including:

  • Back Massage
  • Back, neck & shoulders Massage
  • Hands & Feet Massage
  • Indian Head Massage

Appointments will be available at Centre in Falkirk on the afternoon of 20 May, 1  pm to 4 pm. If there is sufficient interest, the appointments will be available monthly going forward.

Parents Groups – New Session Starting!

Falkirk support groups for parents of children and young people (up to 20 years) who have additional support needs will be starting up again at the beginning of September.  Parents groups meet at the Carers Centre on the first Tuesday evening and the first Thursday morning of the month during term time and offer information and support to parent carers regardless of their child’s Illness, disability or condition.  The September meetings will take place at the Carers Centre as follows:

Tuesday 1 September 2015, 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm

Thursday 3 September 2015, 10.30 am to 12 noon

We look forward to welcoming new members as well as those who regularly attend or who haven’t been along to the group for a while and would like to come along for the start of the new session.
